Sports Spot with Dan Cusack / Sports Reporter

Tiger Woods will return to the links this weekend for the first time since having surgery on his knee last June following a huge victory in the U.S. Open.
As anyone might guess, the sports world and the media are excited because Tiger is a amazing. For the occasion we will dust off an old Daily Eastern News staple and look at top three comebacks in sports history.

Michael JordanHis Airness took a departure from the Chicago Bulls after winning the 1993 NBA Title to play minor league baseball with the Birmingham Barons. As you might expect this was a worse mistake than Jim Belushi’s comedy. On March 18, 1995, Jordan sent out a memo with only two words, “I’m back.” No. 23 won three more titles with the Bulls before hanging it up a second time. He eventually returned again, but that was more painful than “According to Jim.”

George Foreman – The boxing legend put out one hell of a grill, but the heavyweight from New York won the World Heavyweight Title again 20 years after first capturing the belt. Foreman took a 10-year hiatus from boxing, returning in 1988. In 1994, Foreman knocked out Michael Moorer in the tenth round. Foreman remains one of boxing greatest all-time stars behind Ivan Drago from Rocky IV.

Magic Johnson – The Los Angles Laker great retired in 1991 after he learned he tested positive for HIV. He made a return in 1992 and again in 1994, but his greatest comeback achievement was his nighttime talk show “The Magic Hour.” Lasting only two months, the show set the bar for terrible television.
