This year’s theme: Women and War
Some of the events so far include:
“The Equal Rights Amendment: Not Just a Blast from the Past”: Lobbyist Emily Battin spoke about getting women more rights on Feb. 23.
“Women, Children and the Scars of War”: Peace Activist Kathy Kelly spoke about promoting peace on March 25.
“This is a really timely topic,” said Jeannie Ludlow, coordinator for the Women’s Studies program.
Upcoming Events:
- Women of Valor: There will be a “Women of Valor” exhibit and panel with the women from World War II speaking about their time in war. This was put together by Melanie Mills in the communication department; Dan Crews, College of Arts and Humanities; and Jeff Boshart, professor of art.
“This panel was very successful when we had it last year,” said Sace Elder, Chair of the Women’s History and Awareness Month Committee. This will take place in room 4440 of the Booth Library at 6 p.m.
- Film Festival: On March 24-26, there will be a feminist film festival called the “Central Illinois Feminist Film Festival.” Christopher Mitchell, professor of theater and women’s studies, and Robin Murray, professor of English, put this event together.
- Banquet: On March 31, there is a Women’s Studies Awards Reception with student awards and Women of Achievement Awards in the Tarble Arts Center at 7 p.m.
“This is the culmination of all the events women’s studies will be putting on,” Elder said.
