11/6 Political Blog: Many obstacles ahead for Obama

Pulling for John McCain last night obviously left me disheartened. The American people have spoken, however, and we have to respect that. The American people voted for change. This election was not an ideological victory for the Democrats. Hopefully, the liberals that will shortly be in charge will not mistake it as such, though I am not optimistic.
Obama will have a lot on his plate come January. Like Joe Biden said, the world is going to test him. Our economy is in bad shape, we have huge budget deficits and two wars. We need a solution to the Social Security and Medicare crises that are looming over our heads.
He has mad a lot of expensive promises and I am interested to see how he plans to pay for them and if he tries to work with Republicans as he said.
I would say that McCain ran a poor campaign in that he did not attack Obama’s vulnerabilities hard enough. Considering, however, his comparative lack of money, he did rather well. The race was close in most of the key states, but resources were unfortunately mismanaged.
Good luck to President-elect Obama.
