10/20: Notes from the Campus Desk: Ashtrays and Construction Plans

By Sarah Jean Bresnahan/Campus Editor

Ashtrays:
The question around the newsroom today has been “who put the green ashtrays around campus?”

At first, we thought it might be Housing because there is one outside of Thomas Hall North.

Then we thought it might have been Facilities Planning and Management.

After talking with Mark Hudson, director of Housing and Dining about the issue, he made some phone calls and discovered it was the Grounds department who placed the ashtrays. They had some extras lying around and decided to put them on campus.

Construction Plans:
Hudson met with the Lincoln Hall Council last week to go over plans to redo the Lincoln Hall bathrooms. A survey from the Housing department a few years ago uncovered that the Lincoln and Douglas hall bathrooms were the worst on campus. The Douglas Hall bathrooms have already been redone and, pending approval at the January Board of Trustees meeting, the Lincoln bathrooms will be redone next summer.

Another part of campus on the queue for a makeover is Tower Dining. The sketches have been drawn and it is halfway through the approval process.

The service lines for Tower Dining will be broadened, allowing students to go to each individual station instead of waiting in a long line through all of the stations.

Hudson said that these plans are pending approval at the January BOT meeting.

The funding for these projects comes from the room and board fees.
