11/6: Food blog: Food college students should buy

By Randi Frank/Online Reporter

So your in college, you have your first apartment, and now the cooking and grocery shopping is up to you and your roommate. The question is: what should you buy for your empty pantry that would make your lonely kitchen into an actual home away from home?

Of course, you could stock your pantry full of potato chips, soda, and cookies, but that wouldn’t be very healthy.

Every college student should keep coffee for the nights when you’re up all night studying. Plus, if you’re on a budget it’s a lot cheaper buying coffee from the store than going to Starbucks.

If you’re going to do any type of cooking, remember to buy canola oil. For a healthier option, pay a little extra for olive oil, which is so worth the price.

When you’re feeling sick or need a quick snack, soup is the best option. There are a variety of soups that you could buy for fifty cents at some grocery stores.

Instant oatmeal and cold cereals are a must-have in every pantry. Even though you shouldn’t live off mac and cheese and potatoes, they make a great side dish to three course meals.

If you’re thinking about doing any type of baking, remember flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, and baking powder.

Other great items you should include in the pantry include peanut butter, refried beans, pasta and sauce, fruits, muffin mix, instant pudding or jello, cereal and granola bars, baked beans, and powdered drink mix.

I hope this helps the next time your going grocery shopping.
