12/2: Relationship blog: Top 5 movies to rent for a romantic date

By Sam Sottosanto/Online Editor

So, you’ve got a date tonight. Why not sit back and watch a movie?

Not only is this an inexpensive date, but you get to sit on a comfortable couch and snuggle with your significant other. The only thing you need now is the movie.

I’ve compiled a list five movies I think are great for romantic dates. Let me know what you guys think in the comments, and feel free to add some of your own ideas as well.

1.) Titanic (1997). In my opinion, I think that Titanic is the most romantic movie of all time. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet do an excellent job acting. Just watching this movie will make you think of how much you love your significant other, just like the love between Rose (Winslet’s character) and Jack (DiCaprio’s character). And even if it’s not a serious relationship yet, remember that Rose and Jack only knew each other for a few days. Another nice thing about Titanic is it has just the right amount of love in it, but it also carries the same amount of action and tragedy during the second half of the movie, when the boat sinks, so it keeps both of you interested.

2.) The Notebook (2004). This is another classic lovey-dovey movie. Not only is The Notebook a feel good, romantic movie, it also is based around a true story. Like Titanic, the love between the two main characters will remind you of how you feel about your significant other. The Notebook is just hands down, a good date movie. Enough said.

3.) Just Married (2003). Not only is this movie a romance, but it’s a comedy, too. So if the boyfriend in the relationship is not too big on chick flicks, he can still be entertained by the funny moments in Just Married, like when Ashton Kutcher’s character accidentally kills the dog (it’s a lot funnier than what it sounds like). I think almost anyone can relate to this movie as well, because the couple encounters so much bad luck — and everyone knows what that’s like. Not only will you and your date enjoy watching this movie but it’s a movie you will always remember.

4.) It’s A Wonderful Life (1946). I had to include It’s A Wonderful Life. Not only because it’s a classic, but because it’s a Christmas movie. Since it’s getting close to Christmas time, it is important to take part in holiday spirit with your significant other and this is a great way to do so. The two of you can celebrate Christmas and watch a classic feel good movie at the same time.

5.) The Ring (2002).The Ring is a horror movie, and that’s the exact reason why I picked it. In fact, I am almost feeling as if I should have included more horror movies on this list. Horror movies, such as The Ring, are perfect for date movies because it gives the girlfriend in the relationship the perfect opportunity to get closer to the boyfriend — by burying her head in his shoulder during the scary parts. I find this technique quite an advantage. And The Ring is one of the scariest movies that had everybody talking about it when it first came out.

So, now that I’ve listed my Top 5 movies, feel free to list yours.
