Slideshow: Blazin’ Wing Challenge

April 20th, 2009

Fifty three members of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity moved the Blazin’ Wing Challenge into McAfee Gym Sunday afternoon because of the weather. The challenge pitted competitors against one another to see who could eat eight wings (either mild or blazin’) from Buffalo Wild Wings the fastest. The event raised money for the Charleston Fire Department as a way of saying thank you for putting out a fire started at their house in September.

The group expected 300 people to show up and hoped to make about $2,000. But, due in large part to the rainy weather, only about 100-150 people showed up and the ATO fraternity will be able to donate between $500 and $700 to the Charleston Fire Department. Those who came out to the Blazin’ Wing Challenge were able to eat about 1,600 of the 2,400 wings that were bought.

April 7th, 2009

“The steady, rhythmic muffled slam of canvas bags filled with plastic pellets against a plastic, slightly-inclined board at the Student Recreation Center Court Five is interrupted by the squeaking of shoes and calling for the rock from the pickup basketball game on the adjacent court.

Tension runs high at the Rec Center on Monday night as the doubles bags intramural tournament comes to an end, at least on the men’s bracket’s side…”
